Mata Ashraya is a family home museum situated at Santhali, a settlement in between the ancient town of Rishikesh and Devprayag famous for its rich historical rituals.

The site lies in between the foot of Himalayan hills and the dramatic drop of the Ganges. The intervention synthesizes form, topography and technology to make Mata Ashraya a settlement that will resonate with place and history.

Conceived as an interlocking series of contemplative outward looking spaces connected with outside with gentle defensive elements such as low roofs, stone walls, terraces, pools, water bodies and water channels. At the same time, the openness and the permeability of spaces offers a home to contemplate the grandeur of the surrounding- The majestic Ganges with the invaluable collections.

The architectural language is refreshing, modest, unassuming built with steel, timber, glass and stone evokes traditionality but it is still evident firmly in its time to come. The lightweight structures with slatted louvered walls and panels delicately veil the light and the luxuriance landscape all around, cool and calming presence of water throughout the site affirms our spirit of engagement to the project.
