Pre-Cast | Serenity | Escape

A journey of seeking honest answers from oneself is arduous, testing and without a set final destination. Because the destination might be a part of the journey. Inside the mind of a seeker, there are always questions that try to define the purpose of the seeker’s journey.

For the Jilling Conservatory, the approach was to ideate a solution along the lines of a seeker’s journey. Without disturbing the elements that define the dreamy landscape of snow-capped mountains adorning the skyline of Nainital, the aim was to have a modern take on the immortal idea of a ‘home away from home’. When one stands in the middle of the conservatory and looks around, there is nothing that can intrude on one soak in the heavenly surroundings.

The use of glass was demanding as it had to be precast and transported to where it was finally installed. The play of light and shadow is essential to allow a sub conscious memorization by the serenity of the natural elements. It is an escape from not just the world, but also from what is traditional, what is familiar.
